Planning for July 2005

It's official.

While it may be a bit early to say anything, we're expecting another baby in July 2005! When Heidi was pregnant with Caroline, we waited until 3 months had passed before saying anything, but this time around, we wanted to make sure that my folks (who are in Minnesota until early January) found out in person.

Now, last time we did not find out (ahead of time) if it would be a girl or a boy. I know Heidi wants a boy this time, although I am happy as long as the baby is healthy. I guess I'm pretty shocked that I don't actually have a preference... Just that I'm so excited about having another child!

more later....

Winterizing the Golf Disks

This weekend, I took the golf disks out of my car trunk and put them in the house. They're not getting much use these days, what with the freezing temperatures and snowy weather, but I took some time to clean them up before putting them away until spring... winterizing the disks I guess.

Seems to me that with all the indoor sports arenas around the country, some place would be open for disc golfers to practice in the colder months. The Metrodome here in Minneapolis is often open for walkers and rollerbladers, and just think of all the open seats that could be used as targets! Multiple levels! Lots of exercise (now that I think about it, it maybe too many stairs, but hey... exercise is good)!

I've been reading up on disk golf throwing styles, and find that my drive and putt shots are, unfortunately, a bit unique. I've tried several things to get the disks to play well, and with fairly good results, but my approach shots still need a lot of help.

Stu uses a big hyzer toss to angle in at the target, something I have not been able to master. While my drives can be huge, that's only part of the game, and the approach and putt evolution on each hole often leaves me frustrated. So... where to practice in the off months? It's not like the marker or mini disks offer a realistic training experience, and I'm not going to train in my backyard in my Sorel boots and winter gloves. So, do I really just put them away until spring?

Dunno.

Maybe I will have to. Or maybe a warm weather vacation will bring them briefly out of hibernation...

Hello?

Wow. It really has been a long time since I last posted a new entry. Time to get off the old duffer and say something!

We've decided to see if Caroline will sleep in a "big girl" bed, so we've moved one of the twin beds from the guestroom into her bedroom. So far, she's taken to it very well, and has not yet tried to get back in the crib.

When we were figuring out how to position the furniture in her room, we wanted to make sure she was near the door so she'd be able to get in and out of the bed easily as she's learning about her new place to sleep. Right now, she can walk into her room and climb right on the twin bed (there is a stool at the foot of the bed), where she likes to play with her dolls and flip through books.

Moving her to a "big girl" bed is just a test, but we are talking about having mroe kids, so it's really just the first step in the right direction. Perhaps we'll work on the pacifier disposal initiative in a few months.

In other home news tied to the the "big bed" project, we have to rethink how we have the gates situated in out house, so we can keep the mobile toddler from exploring the living room or kitchen in the middle of the night. We have the gates up to keep the Caroline and the dog from roaming the house at night... although if Caroline were to get out to the kitchen at 3:00 AM, she would likely find her dad out there, drinking Hi-C in the middle of the night!
