GlassBead.net

Not long ago, I found meself thinking about the way we use and share knowledge. I was pondering just how the things we learn, share, teach, and do can be translated from thoughts in my head into words or actions. I was thinking of the "intellectual property" we all carry in our heads which makes us intellectually unique.

Similarly, I was thinking of the new GlassBead game at www.GLASSBEAD.net. This online game, in development for years, has proven to be an interesting and creative outlet for all the little tidbits of knowledge locked away in my head, while still offering an opportunity to learn about things in the world I may never have heard of.

What on earth am I talking about? I'm talking about a game that allows a team of players (known or unknown to each other) to make intellectual, cultural, philosophical, or other connections between events, people, and things. It's not easy to describe, since every instance of the game has unique characteristics, but the rules are simple. The game is straightforward. It's online nature allows you to search the web for answers while you play. It offers the opportunity to learn from and share with others who may be next door or thousands of miles away.

I'm hooked. I love it.

I've been telling a lot of people about the game and have no idea if they're logging on, reading the introductions, or simply passing the opportunity by. It's difficult to explain the game but it is easy to play and the new in-line tutorials make game play even easier. And generally, people logged in are willing to help and eager to teach.

If you've got an intellectual itch you need to scratch, the Glass Bead Network is the prescription for your intellectual itchin'!
