I'm 6 feet 5 inches tall and weigh 255 pounds. As I've mentioned in blog entries past, I've been trying, but not very hard, to lose weight.
In actually losing weight, I've failed. However in 4 years of working to lower my weight, I do actually weigh exactly the same as I did way back when. I've recently started paying more attention to what I eat and how much. I've pulled the workout clothes out of the storage bin and I have them in my car, ready to use at the fitness center in my office building (successful attempts: 1).
Today, however, is a new day and now I'll have a whole bunch of reasons to do better and lose some weight: the 20 or so people in my Weight Watchers program at work.
So here come some more numbers:
According to the Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator on cnn.com, my current BMI is
In order to get to a BMI under 25, I need to lose 45 lbs to get to a svelte 210lbs. I do take exception to the BMI calculators and charts, feeling as though they are designed with medium-framed humans in mind.
I am not a marathoner. I am not an olympic swimmer. I am not even a caual athlete. Yes, this contributes to my weight, and yes I need to exercise more. I'm working on that too, but I don't expect to become Bruce Jenner overnight.
With Weight Watchers, I'll be paying closer attention to what I eat. I'll be paying closer attention to how much I exercise. I believe it will help me lose some weight and help with good food choices at work and at home.
And while I've been planning to keep track of a lot of that information here, I may simply focus on providing updates for posterity about once a month or so.
Losing 45 lbs looks like a huge challenge right now. But seeing our team leader this morning, after she lost more than 70 lbs last year, I'm confident that our team will have great success!
