April is upon us: birds are singing in the trees, the sunlight greets us in the morning, and the red oak in the front yard has decided to drop it's leaves... so much for thinking I was done with yard cleanup!
Last night, Heidi remarked that this weblog had not been updated since Fabruary so I wanted to post a quick update. School has been very busy. Since I last posted, I've completed my Public Presentations class (pretty pleased with my grade) and have started another class, Qualitative Research methods. This class, and the companion Quantitative Research Methods, will carry me (acedemically) all the way into summer... And hopefully will "allow" me to get a draft of the first 3 chapters of my thesis/project done. Wow.
I'm still working on the idea for my thesis/project. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do, but need to look into the literature more deeply. When the idea finally coalesces, I'll post some of the information here. I expect I will be even busier (if that's possible) working on the thesis/project than I am now. EEK.
Besides school, I'm still working full time, working with a couple contractors to solidify a knowledge management (very fun work) solution for one of our business units. The work is very interesting but somewhat slow going, mainly because the information we're looking for is either 1) very spread out across the organizatino or 2) does not exist anywhere other than in people's heads. This is a major hurdle as most people do not have time to complete a massive brain dump to get the information out of their heads and into some useable format. The idea is to get what they know onto paper (or into electronic form) so other people can learn from their experience. No small task when we're talking about a sales and consulting organization, although I suspect the same obstacles are encountered in any line of business. It's fun and interesting work and I hope I am able to stay on this track for a while!
Caroline and Sydney are growing up VERY fast... Sydney is now eating some solid foods and is on the verge of crawling. She can get around the room very quickly now and I am so excited that she will be crawling soon... although I'm not sure Caroline or Hershey are ready for that yet! Caroline is learning so much about the world and asking questions and interacting with everything... her vocabulary is growing at an astonishing rate and her language skills are incredible. Not only is she using new words, shre really seems to understand how to use them appropriately, too. She's mostly mastered her ABC's (although we're still working on letter shape recognition) and can count (with only a few skips) to twenty. She loves to sing, loves to dance, and LOVES to play with Sydney. Listening to the two of them laughing is just one of the reasons I love being a dad.
Heidi recently made new curtains for Caroline's room and purchased a new sweing machine. We've got lots to do around the house in keeping up with the mess two small children can make, but she still amazes me with fabulous meals and projects like the curtains... and when I came hope a few weeks ago, she'd moved all the furniture (except the piano) around in the living room to accomodate the playing kids. I know she must sometimes think I don't know all the things she accomplishes during the day, but she does a lot to keep the house running while dad is away at work. I really do need to tell her more often how much I love and appreciate her! We will be celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary this year and I could not be a happier or luckier husband and dad.
