As the weather here in Minnesota turns (arguably) better, I'm driven to do things out in the yard, mainly as a chance to be outside, but also because it's a far cry from the office environment. Don't get me wrong, I really love my job, but once in a while, I just have to do some work outside.
This past Friday was a gorgeous day. It was a golf day, a motorcycling day, a walk-the-dog-around-the-lake day, whatever you want to call it. Not really warm enough to go to the beach, but being a Minnesotan, 64 degrees is REALLY NICE following a winter of sub zero temperatures. I worked until 5:30 on Friday afternoon, and missed a good portion of the day. When I got home, however, I immediately changed into work clothes and headed outside.
I cleaned up a good portion of the yard, picking up sticks and gently raking leaves from the landscaping and parts of the lawn. It felt good to just see the grass and tidy up a bit, but I also know that this year will be a good year for re-seeding the lawn. I've been preparing the ground, and will hopefully be able to turn the patches of green into a beautiful yard, starting in just a few weeks. The huge trees on our property provide shade for most of the yard, although in some areas the sun never directly strikes the ground. Gotta clean the dead and dying branches out of the the trees, too, I guess. And then, there are the roses. I hope that the roses have survived the winter... we'll find out in a few weeks.
So, with dirt under my fingernails after a few hours of work, I felt pretty good. We had a bonfire at around 9:30PM and sat outside enjoying the starry night until about 11:30.
Long day of work. Good hard work in the yard. Relaxing time with my wife by the bonfire. It was a great day.
